Brazil court grants agronomists agchem duties
A Brazilian regional court has decided that only agronomists may provide certain help on the storage and sale of pesticides by suppliers. The unprecedented judgment found in favour of the Parana state engineers’ association, the Senge-PR, and the regional agronomists council, the Crea-PR, of the same state. They argued at the 4th federal regional court at Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul state, that such tasks should be exclusively the domain of agronomists due to the food safety and environmental concerns. The finding overturns an injunction granted in early 2013 to the association of agricultural technicians allowing such work to be carried out by “agricultural technicians” in the state, the Senge reports. The latest court decision included the justification that technicians possess intermediate training, compared with the more qualified agronomists to carry out the work.
