Russian NGO plans long-term GMO study
A Russian NGO is organising what it claims to be the world's largest ever study on the potential health effects of a genetically modified crop and associated pesticide use. The "Factor GMO" study will assess long-term health and reproductive effects of a glyphosate-tolerant maize line on laboratory rats. It is being organised by the Russian National Association of Genetic Safety (NAGS). The study will be overseen by a scientifically neutral review board with no links to the biotechnology industry or anti-GMO groups and the NAGS will have no involvement in designing or running the study, the NGO points out.
