Dow seeks US EUP for GM maize lines
Dow AgroSciences has applied to the US EPA for an experimental use permit (EUP) to test Monsanto's genetically modified insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant SmartStax Pro (MON87411) maize alone and in combination with other traits to evaluate the control of coleopteran and lepidopteran tests. MON87411 expresses a double-stranded RNA transcript and the Bt Cry3B1 toxin for the control of corn rootworms (Diabrotica spp). The EUP application also includes MON89034 (Cry1A.105 + Cry2Ab2), MON88017 (Cry3Bb1), TC1507 (Cry1F) and DAS59122 (Cry34Ab1 + Cry35Ab1). The EUP would run from January 1st 2015 to March 31st 2016 and cover 9,038 acres (3,658 ha) over 15 states and Puerto Rico. Monsanto has applied for USDA deregulation and EPA approval of MON87411.
