Chile investigates insecticide on mass bee deaths case

The Chilean Ministry of Agriculture’s agriculture and cattle service, the Sag, is investigating the mass deaths of bees following the application of an insecticide in a neighbouring orchard. A grower applied the carbamate insecticide, Seven XLR Plus (carbaryl), on a 40 ha apple orchard at the correct rate, temperature and time. He was obliged to notify neighbouring beekeepers, but one whose bees have since died has complained that this was not done. The Sag is investigating.
