US EPA to OK natamycin for pineapples
The US EPA has proposed the approval of DSM Food Specialties' biofungicide, Zivion P (natamycin), for indoor post-harvest use on pineapples. It is for the control of the fungal diseases, Fusarium oxysporum, Penicillium funiculosum, Rhizophus stolonifer, Aspergillus niger and Thielaviopsis paradoxa during transport and storage. It would represent a new use for natamycin, which is already registered for use on mushrooms in enclosed facilities. The Agency proposes to extend the tolerance exemption for natamycin to cover the new use. The decision is open to public comment until November 29th.
