China issues low-toxicity pesticide list

China’s Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) has issued a list of 91 “low-toxicity, low-residue” pesticide active ingredients that are recommended for agricultural production. The  ais have been chosen from over 700 that have registrations in China, and include compounds from every major category: spinosad and 28 other insecticides (32% of the total); boscalid and 39 other fungicides (44%); tribenuron and 14 other herbicide ais (16%); and brassinolide and six other plant growth regulators (8%). The MoA believes that its list is not just a guide for farmers, but can be consulted by Chinese pesticide companies that are looking to develop new products.
