US EPA restricts thiobencarb on rice in California

The US EPA is incorporating new use restrictions on the herbicide, thiobencarb, in a bid to improve protection for three salmon and trout species listed on the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The new limits only impact rice farmers in California's Central Valley, restricting some applications in counties near the Sacramento and Feather Rivers, which have been identified as critical habitat for the listed species. California is the only state within the range of Pacific salmon and trout where rice is grown.
