Argentine soy area slightly up
The Argentine soybean area is projected to rise 1.8% this year to some 20.1 million ha. Some 22% of the country’s major crop had been planted for this season by the time of the Ministry of Agriculture's statistics office, the SIIA, mid-November survey. The increased acreage is in part due to the drop in plantings of maize, which suffers from falling prices for the commodity. The soybean area has reportedly been impacted by a lack of credit for growers.
