Three GM crop approvals referred to EU appeal committee
The backlog of EU approval decisions on the import of genetically modified crop lines continues to mount. Three more GM crop lines have been referred to an appeal committee because member states once again failed to reach a qualified majority for or against European Commission proposals to approve imports. The lines are: Bayer CropScience’s stacked-trait cotton combining glyphosate herbicide-tolerant GlyTol (GHB614) with glufosinate-tolerant LibertyLink (LLCotton25); Monsanto’s glyphosate-tolerant Roundup Ready Flex cotton (MON88913); and the latter’s glyphosate-tolerant MON88302 oilseed rape. The appeal committee is due to consider the proposed approvals at the end of November.
