FMC re-applies for EU approval of bifenthrin
FMC has resubmitted an application for EU re-registration of the insecticide/acaricide, bifenthrin. The application has been made under EU rules covering active ingredients that have been unsuccessful so far in gaining inclusion in Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414). The company has lodged its application with France as rapporteur member state. Last year, the European Commission decided not to re-register bifenthrin and scheduled a phase-out timetable to withdraw national approvals by May 30th 2010, with a further year to use up stocks ( Agrow No 582, p 11). It went ahead with the action after EU member states failed to agree on whether to accept or reject its proposals not to re-register the ai.
