US exemption sought for Arysta's Kasumin
The US EPA has received a request for an emergency exemption to use Arysta LifeScience’s unregistered bactericide, Kasumin 2L (kasugamycin 2%), to control streptomycin-resistant fireblight ( Erwinia amylovora) on apples. The Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) has requested use of the product on 10,000 acres (4,000 ha) between April 20th and May 31st 2010. The yields of susceptible apple varieties could be cut by up to 50% without the use of the bactericide, the MDA maintains. It cites a lack of available alternatives. The EPA granted a similar exemption last year.
