Russia approves alpha-amylase maize
Russia has approved Syngenta’s genetically modified maize line, SYN-E3272-5, for food use, according to the Black Sea Biotechnology Association (BSBA). The maize was primarily developed for dry-grind bioethanol production. It expresses a thermostable alpha-amylase enzyme, AMY797E, from the bacteria, Thermococcales spp. The maize has been approved for food and feed use by the US, Canada , Australia, Mexico and the Philippines, the BSBA notes.
