Brazil to set new agchem brand standards
Brazil is to set new rules on branded pesticides, subject to a 30-day comment period from March 30th. The measures are in response to the use of pesticide brand names, popularly known as “fantasy brands”. If adopted, the new rules would seek “to ensure product quality and pesticide label approvals”, the Ministry of Agriculture says. The proposal defines the trade mark with the name of the formulated product as certified by its Ministry of Agriculture registration, and would link a specific product to a unique brand name. The Ministry’s pesticide office co-ordinator general, Luís Rangel, says the trade mark “should have the name of the active ingredient, registering company, the ai’s concentration, and an acronym describing the formulation type ". The proposed rules have been issued in the official gazette.
