Australia suspends quintozene approvals
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has suspended all registrations of the fungicide, quintozene. The move was prompted by the presence of undeclared dioxin impurities at levels that may pose risks to applicators. The suspension covers Amvac Chemical’s and Barmac Industries’ active ingredient approvals and ten product approvals. The suspensions apply until April 12th 2011. Sale and use of the ai and products are prohibited unless specifically authorised by the APVMA. Continued use will depend on the result of dioxin tests on each batch proposed for use, the APVMA points out. Quintozene is a soil-applied fungicide and seed treatment primarily for use on vegetables, cotton and ornamentals.
