Brazil Anvisa OKs biological insecticides
Brazil’s national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, has listed the biological control agents, Cotesia flavipes, and Trichogramma galloi, as new active ingredients in its “monografia” (list of registered ais at the Ministry of Health). They act as endoparasitoids for the control of sugar cane borers ( Diatraea saccharalis). The agents were added following a 30-day comment period ending in February. The Anvisa is part of the Ministry of Health. Full approval requires ratification by the Ministry of Agriculture.
