European agchem container recycling expands
An industry-led programme to recycle agrochemical containers aims to establish systems in all European countries and achieve a recovery rate of 75% by 2020. The European Crop Protection Association’s first container management programme was launched in 1994 in Germany. It has since grown to 16 programmes covering 17 countries, and has helped set up another nine pilot projects. In 2013, 16,000 tonnes of plastic pesticide containers were collected through ten European management programmes. Some 72% of this was recycled into useful products such as tubing, with the rest converted into energy.
