BASF to debut Kifix on rice in Brazil
BASF is launching its herbicide, Kifix (imazapic + imazapyr), for use on imidazolinone herbicide-tolerant Clearfield rice in Brazil. The herbicide has been specifically designed for use on Clearfield rice and can be used at the pre- and post-emergence phases. It is a water-dispersible granule formulation that offers a wide spectrum of weed control including of red rice ( Oryza sativa), the company says. BASF decided to withdraw its licensing contracts on Clearfield rice for the 2007/08 season, and suspend all funding for the further development of Clearfield rice varieties for the Brazilian market from 2008 ( Agrow No 524, p 4). That followed “widespread unauthorised use” of the technology in the country ( Agrow No 519, p 14).
