DuPont ahead in first quarter
DuPont’s crop protection sales rose “slightly” in the first quarter of 2010. Favourable currency effects offset lower volumes and prices and portfolio changes, says DuPont’s chief financial officer, Nick Fanandakis. The anticipated pricing pressure was “fairly broad-based”, he adds. The volume decline reflected a seasonal shift in timing to the second quarter, which was partly offset by continued growth of the insecticide, Rynaxypyr (chlorantraniliprole).
