Triflumizole gains EU approval for greenhouse use

The European Commission has confirmed that the fungicide, triflumizole, will be re-registered in the EU. Only uses in greenhouses on artificial substrates will be authorised. The active ingredient will be added to Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414) on July 1st 2010. The Annex I conditions stipulate that operators and workers should use adequate personal protective equipment, and that appropriate measures be imposed to protect aquatic organisms. The listing represents a successful re-registration at the second attempt ( Agrow No 589, p 12). Mitsui & Co’s agrochemical distribution company, Certis Europe, resubmitted an approval application for triflumizole in 2008, after the EU authorities initially decided not to re-register the ai. The original decision was based on concerns over operators and workers, but new data submitted showed that the exposure to operator and worker concerns is acceptable provided that adequate protective equipment is worn.
