EU states support five biocide approvals
EU member states have supported proposals to approve five active ingredients as non-crop pesticides. This would represent the first EU approval for Mitsui Chemicals’ insecticide, dinotefuran. The other ais were in the EU review of existing biocides and are the three insecticides, alpha-cypermethrin, Bacillus sphaericus 2362 serotype H5a5b strain ABTS1743 and B thuringiensis subsp israelensis serotype H14 strain SA3A, and carbon dioxide for use as an avicide. The favourable votes were reached by the EU Standing Committee on Biocidal Products in December. The approvals need formal adoption by the European Commission before coming into effect.
