US state/federal officials to join forces on pollinator protection

The US EPA is developing a process for reviewing and accepting state pollinator protection plans as part of its broader effort to cut the risks to bees and other pollinators from pesticides. The effort aims to shift some responsibility for pollinator protection onto states, a move that Agency officials contend can help farmers and beekeepers better ensure that pollinators are not harmed by legal pesticide applications. The EPA also suggests that it may eventually limit certain pesticide uses to states with pollinator protection plans through label restrictions and is keen to see states implement plans in the coming year.
