Monsanto/Sumitomo add herbicide deal to South America
Monsanto and Sumitomo Chemical have signed a long-term herbicide promotion deal in Brazil and Argentina. It extends their North American agreement and includes Sumitomo's herbicide, flumioxazin. The Roundup Ready Plus Crop Management Solutions scheme is aimed at encouraging the use of alternative products to control glyphosate-resistant weeds. Flumioxazin will provide an additional option against weeds such as Conyza spp, the companies point out. Flumioxazin is sold as Sumisoya in Brazil and as Flumyzin in Argentina. Monsanto launched the original Roundup Ready Plus scheme in 2010 in partnership with Sumitomo subsidiary Valent USA Corporation, FMC and Makhteshim-Agan Industries (now Adama Agricultural Solutions). The scheme has been expanded and renamed for 2015.
