Deltapine lines up dicamba-tolerant cotton
Monsanto's cotton seed business, Deltapine, plans to introduce five genetically modified insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant Bollgard II XtendFlex (MON88701xMON88913xMON15985) cotton varieties in the US in 2015, subject to regulatory approvals. The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service issued a final environmental impact statement this month, with a 30-day review period ahead of an expected deregulation decision. The cotton lines would be the first with tolerance to three herbicides, dicamba, glyphosate and glufosinate-ammonium, allowing flexible applications of combinations before, during and after planting, the company points out. It has varieties suited to each region of the Cotton Belt, Deltapine adds.
