US to fund mosquito controls
The US Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) has launched a $6 million grants programme to fund the development of new pesticides for the control of malaria-spreading mosquitoes. Despite the importance of insecticides in controlling the disease, no new products have been developed for public health use in malaria-endemic countries for 30 years, the FNIH points out. Grant enquiries will be accepted until June 25th.
