Non-lethal herbicide reduces weed seed banks

Non-lethal doses of herbicides applied to weedy invasive grasses can prevent seed production, researchers from the US Agricultural Research Service and Dow AgroSciences have found. They compared the effects of treating Japanese brome ( Bromus japonicus) with theherbicides, dicamba, 2,4-D and picloram, which are known to reduce seed yields if applied to cereals such as wheat and barley immediately prior to seed set.
