Bayer seeks Australian GM brassica tests
Bayer CropScience has applied to the Australian Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) to test genetically modified herbicide-tolerant canola and Indian mustard, together with a hybrid breeding system. The company plans to test the GM lines on up to 21 sites in South Australia and Victoria on a maximum of 6 ha per site each year between January 2011 and February 2014. The OGTR has previously approved field tests of the GM crops. It expects to issue a risk assessment and risk management plan on the latest application in July.
