US drops glyphosate dumping inquiry

The US International Trade Commission has dropped its investigation into the alleged dumping of the herbicide, glyphosate, from China. The Commission began a preliminary investigation last month following a complaint by US agrochemical company Albaugh ( Agrow No 589, p 18). Albaugh withdrew its petition in late April after Monsanto failed to support the action. Without the multinational’s support, Albaugh was unable to reach the minimum 25% industry threshold to advance the petition, the company told Agrow. Monsanto believes that unfair trade practices may be occurring, but believes further discussions with stakeholders are needed to reach consensus on the impact of supporting such a petition.
