US to cancel resmethrin registrations
The US registrants of the pyrethroid insecticide, resmethrin, have requested the cancellation of products registered for wide-area mosquito control. Bayer CropScience and Valent BioSciences have determined that the cost of fulfilling data requirements in the 2006 re-registration eligibility decision ( Agrow No 501, p 17) and the endocrine disruptor screening programme ( Agrow No 578, p 15) are not justified by the size of the mosquito control market, the EPA notes. It proposes to allow the companies to sell and distribute existing stocks until December 31st 2012. All resmethrin-based products are expected to be cancelled.
