Brazil Anvisa disputes industry calls

The Brazilian toxicology authorities have re-affirmed their intent to press ahead with their reassessment programme on 14 pesticide active ingredients. The programme has already led to the banning of the insecticide, cyhexatin ( Agrow No 584, p 16). The national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, claims that “almost all” of the products under reassessment are either banned or under threat of prohibition in other countries, or are the object of market controls through international conventions to which Brazil is a signatory.
