Spanish region ups crop defence aid
Pesticide users and distributors are to benefit from a near-doubling of public funds for the control of pests in the Spanish region of Catalonia. The region’s government is to grant up to €2 million ($2.5 million) towards preventive and control measures to Catalonian farmer and crop protection groups. The funds will be donated to aid farmers purchasing pesticides as well as contracting technicians to implement IPM measures, such as setting pheromone traps. The main target pests include codling moths ( Cydia pomonella), Mediterranean fruit flies ( Ceratitis capitata), tomato leaf miners ( Tuta absoluta), and fireblight ( Erwinia amylovora), as well as diseases and pests on horticultural crops.
