EU pressed for action on GMO rules review
France has urged the European Commission to issue a progress report on its review of EU legislation on genetically modified organisms. A wide-ranging shake-up of EU rules was called for by EU Environment Ministers in December 2008 ( Agrow No 558, p 8). It included work on environmental risk assessments, socio-economic issues, and labelling thresholds for seed, with some items originally having a deadline of spring 2010. The French delegation issued its request for an update at the June meeting of EU Environment Ministers. It was supported by several EU member states.
