Further delay on EU GMO approval decisions

EU member states have once again failed to agree on whether to accept or reject European Commission proposals to approve genetically modified crops. EU Agriculture Ministers this month could not reach the qualified majority necessary to take a decision on six GM maize lines, mirroring the outcome at the EU regulatory committee earlier this year ( Agrow No 594, p 11). The dossiers will be sent back to the Commission, which is free to go ahead with its proposed approvals for import, processing and use in food and feed.
