FEN 560 activator on EU Annex I

French company Société Occitane de Fabrications et de Technologies’ plant activator, FEN 560 (fenugreek seed powder), has attained full EU approval. The active ingredient will be added to Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414) on November 1st 2010. It was cleared by the EU regulatory committee in May ( Agrow No 592, p 11). FEN 560 has been developed for use on grapevines to stimulate plant defences against foliar fungi, with the trade name, Stimulia. It already holds provisional approvals in France and Luxembourg. EU member states have until April 30th 2012 to re-register FEN 560-based products according to the conditions of the Annex I listing. These stipulate that particular attention should be paid to the risk to operators, workers and bystanders, and that risk mitigation measures should be imposed where appropriate.
