Brazil cotton area to jump
The area for planting cotton in Brazil is to rise by up to 20% this year, business newswire DCI reports. It cites a cotton farmer association, the Ampa, from Brazil’s principal cotton-producing state, Mato Grosso. The state’s cotton area was around 422,000 ha for the 2009/10 season, but the Ampa expects it to rise to 483,000 ha for planting starting late this year. Mato Grosso accounted for just over half of official estimates of last season’s national cotton area of 846,500 ha.
