New Zealand approves biocontrol agent

The New Zealand Environmental Risk Management Authority has approved an application from the New Zealand Forest Research Institute (trading as Scion) to release a biological control agent. The parasitoid wasp, Cotesia urabae, will be used to control gum leaf skeletonisers ( Uraba lugens), a pest of eucalyptus and other ornamentals. The gum leaf skeletoniser is an Australian moth that became established in New Zealand around 2001.
