Uganda OKs trials of three GM crops

The Ugandan National Biosafety Committee has approved applications for enclosed field trials of three genetically modified crops, reports the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications. The GM crops are: brown streak disease (BSD) virus-resistant cassava; weevil ( Cylas spp)-resistant sweet potatoes; and drought-tolerant maize developed as part of the Water Efficient Maize for Africa programme. They will be trialled by the Ugandan National Crops Resources Research Institute.
