Monsanto healthy soya launch on track
US soybean technology company Solae (St Louis, Missouri) has confirmed that it has begun providing food manufacturers with samples of its new high-steariodonic acid oil from Monsanto’s genetically modified MON87769 soybeans. Steariodonic acid is converted in the body to another omega-3 fatty acid, eicosapentaenoic acid. A US launch of MON87769 soybeans is expected in 2012, pending approval by the USDA. The company has also applied for food-use approvals for MON87769 in Canada, the EU, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
