Brazil state agchem records system in operation

Brazilian state Parana has launched its pesticide use and registration system, the Siagro. The computerised data collection system will log all pesticide sales within the state ( Agrow No 585, p 18). Agronomic receipts will be electronically logged at the agricultural inspection service, the Defis. The launch of the system was delayed earlier this year at the behest of farmer associations ( Agrow No 590, p 30). The Siagro replaces a paper-based system in a state that consumes some 80,000 tonnes of pesticides a year. The authorities say the system will allow speedier verification of infestations of crops and improved diagnostics for pesticide use.
