EFSA seeks further views on GMO assessment
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) plans to meet environmental NGOs in September to discuss its draft revisions to guidelines on the environmental risk assessment (ERA) of genetically modified plants. The consultation follows similar discussions with EU member state authorities on the revision. “We recognise that some environmental NGOs have questions about this complex scientific process,” says Dr Riitta Maijala, head of the EFSA’s risk assessment directorate. The Authority aims to finalise the guidelines by the end of the year.
