CropLife America slams NMFS BiOp
The draft findings of the US National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) on the risks posed by pesticides to endangered salmon is “scientifically flawed”, says the industry association, CropLife America. The NMFS issued its draft Biological Opinion (BiOp) in June on a third batch of 12 pesticides under a legal settlement covering four western states ( Agrow No 594, p 15). The methods employed and the data selected by the NMFS are “frequently not validated or are undocumented”, CLA states. Consequently, it is not possible to use the BiOp to support the mitigation measures proposed, the industry group adds.
