US pilots mini-bulk recycling in Iowa

The US industry-funded Agricultural Container Recycling Council (ACRC) has launched a pilot programme with the Agribusiness Association of Iowa to collect and recycle mini-bulk pesticide containers. The scheme is targeted at 6,000 intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) that have reached the end of their useful life. “The pilot gives retailers and end-users an excellent option for disposal of IBCs that fail to meet the requirements of the 2006 EPA container and containment rule that takes effect in August 2011,” says ACRC executive director Ron Perkins. The ACRC will use the pilot to develop training materials for dealing with 56-330 gallon (212-1,249 litres) containers.
