US EPA halts sale of tainted herbicide

The US EPA has ordered a halt to the sale and distribution of the herbicide, Warthog 2 EC (clethodim), following reports that a tainted batch had damaged 8,000 acres (3,240 ha) of soybeans in Kansas. An investigation at the contract formulation and packaging company, HPI Products (St Joseph, Missouri), found stock that appeared to be contaminated with the herbicide, dicamba, the EPA notes. It has asked the Warthog 2 EC registrant, J Oliver Products (Hernando, Mississippi), to consider issuing a recall of the herbicide.
