Dazomet gains EU biocide approval
The European Commission has confirmed the approval of dazomet as a wood preservative under the EU biocidal products Directive (98/8). The active ingredient was cleared in May ( Agrow No 592, p 13) and will be added to the Directive’s Annex I on August 1st 2012. Not all wood preservative uses were covered by the EU evaluation, which only concerned professional use outdoors for remedial treatment of wooden poles by the insertion of granules. When authorising other uses, EU member states will have to carry out further risk assessments, the Commission states. All approvals for industrial and/or professional use will require the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, it adds.
