Chinese abamectin consortium holds first meeting
The Chinese Crop Protection Industry Association's abamectin insecticide manufacturers' consortium has extended Hebei Veyong Bio-Chemical's term as its leading organisation from one year to three. The consortium made the move at its first meeting last month, the company says. Chemical companies Zhejiang Shenghua Biok Chemical and Shandong Qilu King-Phar Pharmaceutical were selected as deputy leader organisations, while Ningxia Dadi Fengzhiyuan Biology Pharmaceutical's application for membership was ratified. Shenghua Biok is also responsible for a preliminary investigation into, and drafting a plan for, the safe treatment of abamectin waste. The consortium’s goal is to combat problems such as illegal manufacturing, the rapid drop in price, and over-production of the agrochemical, which has led to “large losses” for manufacturers and the industry ( Agrow No 587, p 23).
