Monsanto applies to test Bollgard III in US
Monsanto has applied to the US EPA to field test its genetically modified insect-resistant Bollgard III cotton. The cotton combines the established Bollgard II (MON15985), which produces the Bt Cry1Ac and Cry2Ab2 toxins, with Syngenta’s COT102 (Vip3Aa19), for the control of lepidopteran pests. Monsanto is seeking an experimental use permit (EUP) to test 1,897 acres (768 ha) of GM cotton, including 704 acres of Bollgard III. The EUP would apply to 20 states plus Puerto Rico between December 1st 2010 and June 30th 2012.
