Iprodione use extension approved in EU
The established fungicide, iprodione, has gained EU approval for additional use as a nematicide. The active ingredient was originally re-registered for use as a fungicide in 2004, after being supported through the EU review of existing ais by Bayer CropScience ( Agrow No 424, p 9). The Belgian biotechnology company, Devgen (Ghent), submitted the application for the use extension. The European Commission has amended the ai’s listing in Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414) and asked EU member states to adopt the change from December 25th 2010. The existing Annex I risk mitigation conditions, which relate to protecting ground water and aquatic invertebrates, are unchanged. In 2009, Devgen gained approval for iprodione as a nematicide in the US, as Enclosure ( Agrow No 568, p 23) and in Turkey, as Devgard ( Agrow No 574, p 28).
