EU proposes more biocide approvals
The European Commission has proposed approvals for three more active ingredients as non-crop pesticides. Proposals to add Dow AgroSciences’ insecticide, spinosad, and Sumitomo Chemical’s insecticide, metofluthrin, to Annex I of the EU biocidal products Directive (98/8) have been passed to EU Ministers for clearance. The third proposal is to extend carbon dioxide’s existing EU approval to use as an insecticide, following an application by Rentokil Initial. Carbon dioxide is already approved as a rodenticide ( Agrow 533, p 10). The EU Ministers’ general secretariat has recommended that Ministers clear the proposals.
