Australia to approve Valent's ProTone

The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority has proposed the registration of Sumitomo Chemical subsidiary Valent BioSciences’ plant growth regulator (PGR), ProTone (S-abscisic acid), for use on grapevines. It is used to accelerate or increase colouration of table grapes. Valent introduced the product in the US this year ( Agrow No 591, p 25). The company received its first global approval for the single-isomer version of the established PGR in Chile in December 2009 ( Agrow No 582, p 27). The Australian approval decision is subject to a 28-day public comment period from August 31st.
