Argentine researchers cite agchem health risk
A meeting of various Argentine scientists at the Argentine National University of Cordoba has concluded that “sufficiently strong” evidence exists that exposure to pesticides increases the risks to human health. The meeting last month considered recent moves to limit pesticide spraying in the country near urban areas. Groups of epidemiologists and molecular biologists, among others, claimed it was the first time that a university had invited researchers and academics to address the use of pesticides in agriculture. Several Argentine regional courts and Parliaments have sought to limit the use of pesticide spraying in the country ( Agrow No 598, p 29). The meeting called for an end to such spraying. A further meeting of researchers is scheduled for March 2011.
