Spain extends biocide harmonisation
Spanish harmonisation of biocide regulation with EU rules is to be extended until 2014. The government has approved a proposal from the Ministries of Agriculture and the Environment, and of Health and Social Policy to change regulations governing the registration evaluation process for biocides. A new Royal Decree incorporates the EU biocidal products Directive (98/8). It extends the transition period set by the European Parliament and Council of Ministers for the harmonisation of the biocide market until May 2014, replacing a 2002 decree, the government says. “The national practice and system will regulate the biocide market until such time that harmonised and data protection arrangements can be implemented”.
